In his speech at the inauguration ceremony, Speaker Şentop stated that 30 years ago, organizing of Turkish communities as independent states in the wider Eurasion region and building a Parliamentary Assembly was only a dream.
Şentop indicated that it is a great honor for Turkey to be the first country who recognized brother Turkish states and who had the privilege to give support for them to participate in the community of independent states and added “Our relations have been gradually developing and deepening in every area since 1991. We are continuing our efforts to further intensifying our cooperation in bilateral and multilateral platforms.”
Şentop reminded that after the establishment of International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) in 1993, TURKPA was established in 2008 as the first Turkish organization of the 21st century and added “We are both proud and excited about TURKPA’s 10th Year Anniversary. During such a significant period, I have assumed the Term Presidency of TURKPA as a holy trust on behalf of the GNAT.”
Şentop stated that, since its foundation 10 years ago, they have organized numerous events together with TURKPA and that TURKPA has already proven itself as an international organization.
Şentop quoted that TURKPA had its first expansion with Hungary gaining observer membership status in the 2013-2014 term and that it had been hosting Uzbekistan as a guest since 2017.
Şentop expressed that they were soon expecting Uzbekistan to gain permanent status within TURKPA and added:
“Similarly, we want Turkmenistan to participate in TURKPA whether as a guest or an observer. Likewise, we hope to determine a status for Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)-TURKPA relations similar to the statute recognized in the international arena and other organizations. We have to find a reasonable solution regarding TRNC by taking into consideration the adjectives and statute used in the United Nations documents and other international organizations.”
Şentop reminded that the 10th Anniversary Photograph Exhibition which he inaugurated was first organized in November 2018 in İzmir, then in Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan and afterwards in Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan and stated that the exhibited photographs were characterizing the work of TURKPA as a documentary from the past to today.
