Mustafa Şentop, Speaker of the GNAT expressed his gratitude for being in Izmir during his speech at the meeting titled “The World and Turkey at the beginning of the third Millenium” held at Izmir Chamber of Commerce (IZTO).

Şentop gave information about world history to the participants and stated that the world is on the verge of a new order at the beginning of the 21st century where new paradigms and a new world order is negotiated.

Şentop indicated that the world is going through a significant evolutionary period called globalization and emphasized that 30 years ago, there were only a few world news in newspapers but now it is the other way around.

Şentop stated that this globalization is not only effective in trade and economy and added “It is both effective in social life and culture. Our youth is using expressions that are used worldwide and they’re listening to popular songs. We must add that this change can affect both political life and ruling governments. The agricultural revolution has brought out imperialism. The industrial revolution has brought out nation states. This globalization will create a new picture which will enable new political constitutions and pave the way for new paradigms in politics and economy.”

Şentop expressed that Turkey has had such great progress over the past 100 years and that it has become an influential country both in the world and in its own region and added “We have practiced a new move in order to prepare for the new term. Turkey has experienced one of the most important political and judicial revolutions of the past century by changing its government system. Today, many countries including France are discussing their systems. With Trump’s US presidency, the ongoing system for 200 years has become a matter of debate in various places. We have taken a big step with the referendum. Turkey has taken a step to rebuild itself politically as a state. Why did we do it?; we did it to make Turkey one of the leading actors in the future ahead”.

Şentop explained that over the past centuries, the country who wished to participate at the economic and technological race between countries could start at the very beginning; now, with the help of science and technology, they can enter at any point.

Şentop stated:

“Europe in the 19th century and the western culture civilization was a civilization culture to which people pinned their hopes on at the point of humanitarian values, in the field of human rights in the world other than the western culture. It is not like that anymore. We need values that enable people, who believe in the equality of states, to develop and be prosperous in the fields of international law, politics and economy. Turkey is the only country who exhibits those values.”

After the speeches, Şentop answered the participants’ questions.

When a participant asked a question about Huawei, Şentop stated that the issue was not only limited with the telephone company.

Şentop stated that, Germany and the Netherlands were against the US’ attitude and added “Because, they are working with a Chinese company for infrastructure. There is an attitude towards all the countries and foreign companies that have trade relations with the US and that gain profit from it but it is different for China, who is a technological pioneer. There is a restraint. We can say that this will continue in many fields. We will encounter such kind of events much more in the future”.
