SPEAKER ŞENTOP’S REACTION TO ICELAND…


Mustafa Şentop, Speaker of the GNAT wrote a letter to Steingrimur J. Sigfusson, Speaker of the Parliament of Iceland, stating that the discourteousness aimed at our National Football Team is unacceptable and added, “I sincerely hope that you take necessary action in order not to damage our friendly relations”. Şentop, Speaker of the GNAT also wrote letters to Nihat Özdemir, President of Turkish Football Federation and Şenol Güneş, National Football Team Coach and conveyed his well wishes. 10.06.2019

Şentop sent a letter to his Icelandic colleague, Steingrimur J. Sigfusson on the occasion of the events which our National Football Team was exposed to in Iceland.

Mustafa Şentop stated below in his letter:

“We are deeply saddened by the unnecessary long wait experienced by our National Football Team at the airport who are visiting your country for the Iceland-Turkey match to be played in the framework of European Championship Eliminations and the impertinent behavior against one of our players.

I would like to indicate that this situation which caused irreparable damage to the friendly relations between the two countries and to the ever-existing mutual respect is unacceptable. On behalf of the Turkish people and myself, I would like to convey my deep sorrow due to this regrettable incident and sincerely hope that you take necessary action in order not to damage our friendly relations.”

Şentop also wrote letters to Nihat Özdemir, President of Turkish Football Federation and Şenol Güneş, National Football Team Coach.

Speaker Şentop stated in his letter to Özdemir that, “We are deeply saddened by the unnecessary long wait experienced by our National Football Team at the Airport of Iceland and the impertinent behavior against one of our players. I would like to convey my well wishes to you and to our National Team through you due to this regrettable incident and wish you the best of luck for the match tomorrow.”

Şentop also expressed his sadness in his letter to Şenol Güneş stating, “I would sincerely like to indicate that our people’s and the GNAT’s confidence in you and your players are full and our support is permanent. I would like to convey my well wishes to you and to your team mates through you due to this regrettable incident and wish you the best of luck for the match tomorrow.”
