With the decision of the Presidency of Religious Affairs, funeral prayer in absentia was performed nationwide after the noon prayers on the occasion of Muhammed Mursi’s passing in a courtroom.
Mustafa Şentop, Speaker of the GNAT, Abdulhamit Gül, Minister of Justice, İbrahim Kalın, Spokesman of the Presidency, Bülent Arınç, Member of the High Advisory Board of Presidency, Vasip Şahin, Governor of Ankara and some Members of the Parliament attended the funeral prayer in absentia performed at Hacı Bayram Mosque in Ankara.
Ali Erbaş, President of Religious Affairs prayed for Mursi after performing the funeral prayer in absentia.
Mustafa Şentop, Speaker of the GNAT expressed in his speech that God has bestowed an honorable life and death upon Mursi reminding he was the first elected President of Egypt through a referandum.
Şentop reminded that Mursi was elected with the courtesy and authority of the nation with legitimacy based on the constitution, however he was ousted through a coup d’etat and continued, “Those who come to power through a coup always leave with a much bigger one. I would especially like to express the magnitude of treachery of those who betrayed their country, nation, people of Egypt and their benefactors who appointed them to their posts. All treacheries are evil, however betraying your benefactors is the worst and meanest of all.”
Şentop offered his condolences to the Islamic World and to the people of Egypt and Turkey and added:
“The Islamic World is facing great cruelties. However, if we look through a different angle we can say that there is quorum in everything as well as in these unjust sufferings and cruelties. We are waiting to fullfil the quorum. Of course, there is law of physics and the law of nature within the process of life. But, we can not say that we fully comprehend all the parameters, all the data, changes and the reasons of incidents that have occurred. There are things we do not understand. Probably the most important of those is realizing that the tyrants will be defeated, although we don’t know when or why we all know that this will happen eventually.”
İbrahim Kalın, Spokesman of the Presidency stated that the miracle given by the people of Egypt for freedom, democracy and the rule of law is symbolized through Mursi.
Kalın indicated that thousands of people who resisted the coup in various parts of Egypt have lost their lives, tens of thousands have been imprisoned and many had to flee abroad; however this situation will not provide benefits for the interests of the Egyptian people, their development, progress and regaining of their historical dignity.
Kalın emphasized that, western democracies who have supported this coup should make a review and added, “Mursi will continue to support the fight of the people of Egypt, the Arab World and the Islamic World for more freedom, justice and democracy and he will continue to be in the forefront of these movements with his fight and martyrdom. No steps will be taken back. Our President has been following the issue closely since yesterday.”
Kalın mentioned the allegations against Mursi’s death and made the following evaluation:
“It is not easy to make contact with family members in Egypt, but various human rights organizations and members of the Muslim Brothers Organization have made statements on the matter. The incident is quite recent, however there is a certain need for an autopsy report. In what conditions did his death occur, what is the exact reason of his death? Human rights organizations have made some calls related to that. We will also be following. Of course we will see, the incident has recently happened but essentially the fight for freedom, democracy and justice will go on somehow within the framework of democratically legitimate laws. Eventually, the right ones will win, not the tyrants.”
Ali Erbaş, President of Religious Affairs stated that God will complete (the revelation of) His light definitely and for that, prophets, friends of Allah, the brave and heroes who represent the will of their nation have been fighting.
Erbaş indicated that people were martyred sometimes in their countries’ jails and courtrooms and Mursi has lost his life in a courtroom who followed the footsteps of Hz. Hamza who was also martyred at a battlefront in Uhud.
Erbaş wished that Allah would mercy on Mursi’s soul praying, “May Allah let many young people to be brought up in his path and may He let us and all Muslims bring those young people up.”
