Şentop reminded President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s statement regarding the purchasing transaction of S-400 had been completed and continued, “We have made our decision about S-400. First batch will be delievered in July. We are not at a point where we decide whether to buy or not to buy.”
Şentop reminded that there is an international pressure from particularly the U.S. and from NATO about the S-400, “We don’t find it right and candid because there are NATO countries who own S-300. There are no objections to those countries.”
Şentop pointed out the fact that the purchasing process of S-400 from Russia is not clandestine, but rather an ongoing process in front of the whole world.
Şentop emphasized that no one has the right to tell Turkey “Do not buy defence systems.” And continued his words:
“No one can tell Turkey ‘You do not need defence’. They also can not say ‘We are not giving you these, don’t buy from somewhere else, do whatever you want to.’ Turkey will defend itself just like other countries, it has the potential to buy whatever it wants regarding all defence systems.”
Şentop indicated that the S-400 bought from Russia is somehow associated with the purchasing of F-35 warplanes from the U.S. by some politicians from the U.S.
Şentop reminded that there has already been an agreement on the F-35 project, it was paid for and Turkey has made contributions whereas he thinks that Turkey will not be removed from the project, otherwise all international agreements will be invalidated.
