The Speaker of the Parliament Mustafa Şentop noted in his message:
"Exactly 101 years ago, on May 19, 1919, Veteran Mustafa Kemal and his companions went to Samsun and start off with the auspicious torch of the National Struggle.
After a journey from Samsun to Ankara, that torch spread across the entire country in waves and turned into a determination of "Either Independence or Death".
May 19 is the beginning of a move that turned into a resurrection epic and victory with the courage and heroism of our noble nation.
But the march that started that day is not a process that started and ended in a certain period of history. To commemorate May 19, 1919 is to declare to friends and enemies in the face of the similar dangers and threats, our fellow nation’s attitude, the road it will walk, the price it will pay and make pay.
I am wishing that the 101st anniversary of May 19, 1919 will be a happy celebration for our nation and our youth; I commemorate with mercy and respects all our martyrs and veterans who gave soul to the National Struggle, first and foremost Veteran Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his fellow companions.
The message of the Speaker of GNAT Şentop regarding May 19 was also shared with a video on his social media account.
