Mustafa Şentop, Speaker of the GNAT and the guest Chairman presided the meeting between delegations where Şentop began his speech by stating, “I wish that this meeting would be a manifestation of our common will and our genuine efforts towards developing the unprecedented relations between Turkey and Afghanistan.” and he told that he was pleased to host Abdullah, Chairman of the High Council for Reconciliation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and his delegation in Turkey and in the GNAT.
Speaker Şentop indicated that the relations between Afghanistan and Turkey are based on historical ties and sincerity from people to people and from heart to heart, “The cooperation between the two countries gets its strength from the friendship and brotherhood ties between our peoples. The basis of our common work is comprised of political dialogue, security and development partnership. The two countries have always stood together through times of sorrow and happiness. As you are well aware, there are many historical, cultural, economic and political elements that keep the relations between our countries special and exceptional.”
Speaker Şentop indicated that Turkey has stood beside its brother Afghanistan during the fight with the coronavirus pandemic which affected the whole world deeply, “If the medical aid sent to Afghanistan in June has helped healing the wounds even a little, we, as Turkey would be glad to hear that.”
Şentop told that, “With their visit to the GNAT, we hope to enhance the visits and relations between the House of the People of Afghanistan and the Senate.” and continued his words:
“Strengthening interparliamentary relations will also strengthen the relations between governments. In this framework, it is important to enhance the relations between our respective commissions and friendship groups and also our interparliamentary unity and cooperation on both regional and global scales.”
Şentop expressed that Turkey has the same viewpoint of Afghanistan on various matters that are on the international agenda, “As Turkey, we closely follow the peace process in Afghanistan. We are extremely pleased that the negotiations between Afghans, which is considered as an important step of establishing permanent peace, have commenced.”
In his speech, Abdullah, Chairman of the High Council for Reconciliation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan stated that he is pleased to be in the GNAT with his delegation and thanked for the brotherly support.
The guest Chairman indicated that it is an honor to be in the GNAT and continued his words:
“As you have already mentioned, there are common historical and cultural ties between our countries. It is the undeniable truth that these relations between our countries have been further strengthened in almost every field during the past 20 years with your efforts and support.
You have given us support and helped us in every field, from economic development to humanitarian aid, from education to securtiy and of course during the Covid-19 pandemic. Thank you so much. Thank Allah, the relations between our countries, peoples and governments are extremely strong and they continue to get even stronger.”
The guest Chairman and his delegation also visited the Plenary Hall of the Assembly. Abdullah, Chairman of the High Council for Reconciliation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan greeted the Assembly.
Speaker Şentop guided a tour of the bombed areas of the GNAT on July 15th treacherous coup attempt for the guest Chairman and his delegation.
