Israel’s violence against defenseless Palestinian civilians in Jerusalem, its repressive policies and attempts to obstruct the freedom of worship have reached quite a dire dimension just on the eve of Eid al-Fitr. The atrocious attacks by the Israeli security forces using gas, plastic bullets, and stun grenades in and around the Al-Aqsa Mosque caused many innocent Palestinians, including babies and children, to be injured. We, as the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, hereby strongly condemn this atrocity and lawlessness.
We would like to emphasize once again that Israel’s operations for confiscating the houses of the Palestinians in the Sheikh Jarrah and Silvan neighborhoods in Jerusalem, where they had lived for generations, and forcefully evicting them in favor of illegal settlers are unlawful and inhuman. We hereby declare that we are providing full support to the United Nation’s (UN) call to Israel to stop the demolitions and evictions in line with international humanitarian law and human rights laws and to preserve the status quo of holy places, and that all UN member states should stand behind such call with determination.
