Mustafa Şentop, Speaker of the GNAT indicated that July 15 was not against political power or the state but it was rather a public movement that was carried out in order to stand by political power and constitutional order, therefore July 15 is quite unique. July 15, 2021

Şentop spoke at the opening of “July 15 Panel on its 5th Anniversary” and commemorated 251 people who were martyred on the night of July 15.

Şentop wished recovery and a long life to over 2000 veterans.

Mustafa Şentop emphasized that public acts in the world have always been against political power and state, “July 15 is an exception. July 15 was not against political power or the state but it was rather a public movement that was carried out in order to stand by political power and constitutional order. Therefore, July 15 is quite unique.”

Şentop pointed out the importance of integration of the state’s values with the nation’s values:

“It is possible to develop an understanding of ‘the nation’s state’ once integration of the state with the nation is enabled. Constitutions have organized two basic subjects: First one is basic rights and freedoms, the other is structure and functioning of the state. Winners of the Second World War have created constitutions of losers of the War. Italian Constitution was prepared under the guidance of US occupation forces. So was the German Constitution. Commander of US occupation forces made civilian legal experts in the army prepare and edit Japan’s Constitution.

Retired US Central Forces Commander made a statement and said ‘All our partners are inside.’ during the days when July 15 coup attempt was made. Who is your partner? The President, Prime Minister, Ministers, elected politicians are outside; how could your partners be inside? Your partner could only be those who run the country. Thus, they are not their real partners. International order has never considered the elected as their genuine partners. Their partners have been partners of that bureaucratic and oligarchic structure. I believe that the order which I have described began with May 27, 1960 coup de main. Turkey has put itself among the losers of Second World War with May 27, 1960 coup de main. With 1961 Constitution, basic policies were determined whereas political power was divided into two. Once the power of politics increased, the power of bureaucratic oligarchic structure began decreasing.”

Speaker Şentop told that the process which began under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been executed with the effort of reflecting the nation’s will to the power in real terms.
