Speaker Şentop emphasized that negative impacts of Covid-19 pandemic cause fundamental changes in societies, “Unfortunately, social and environmental impacts of the pandemic are among the top of these negativities. The fact that Covid-19 pandemic further deepens current issues makes it imperative for the whole mankind to take quick and determined steps.”
Şentop reminded G20 Parliamentary Speakers, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s speech at the 76th UN General Assembly in which he emphasized the expression that “Turkey, who is never indifferent to any kind of global issue, crisis or call, it would do it’s part in terms of climate change and protecting the environment.
As you are aware, Turkey is one of the countries that first signed Paris Climate Agreement however, we have been unable to bring this agreement into force because of injustices related to the responsibilities. Recently, we have brought ratification of the agreement to our agenda again following the progress within this framework. We have adopted Paris Climate Agreement yesterday at the Plenary Session of the GNAT in line with the constructive steps that would be taken and on the basis of our national contribution statement. I am pleased to share the news with you at G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit.”
Şentop pointed out that political and economic relations in the world would be reshaped after the pandemic, “In this regard, we have to develop an expression that would healthily rebuild the relations between humans and nature, humans and society and humans and states and finally interstate relations that would be established on this basis. No approach that does not centralize humans would create a permanent solution.”
