SPEAKER ŞENTOP MEETS WITH THE PRIME MINISTER OF NORTH MACEDONIA, KOVAÇEVSKI


Speaker of Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şentop met with Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski as part of his contacts in North Macedonia. April 27, 2022

The meeting took place at the Government Building in the capital, Skopje.

In a written statement from the government of North Macedonia, it was stated that during the meeting, the traditional good and friendly relations between the two countries were jointly affirmed, and this was demonstrated by the growth in trade volume in 2021, as well as the fact that Turkish companies are among the largest investors in the country.

Emphasizing that North Macedonia gives equal importance to all its citizens, it is an example of how citizens from different cultures, religions and ethnicities can live in harmony in one country, and this is an important contribution to peace in the Balkans, in this context, it was stated that Türkiye supports North Macedonia in starting negotiations with the European Union (EU) is important for the stability of the region and beyond.

In the statement, it was stated that Kovachevski thanked Türkiye for the sincere and continuous support that has been shown in the progress it has made since its independence.

Touching on the issue between North Macedonia and Bulgaria, Kovachevsky stated that a solution would be possible if both sides were committed to honorable talks based on European values ​​and the spirit of mutual respect.

Evaluating the situation in Ukraine, Kovachevski emphasized that North Macedonia continues with policies that are fully compatible with the EU and NATO.

During the meeting, it was concluded that the relations between North Macedonia and Türkiye continue economically and develop as partner countries within the scope of the NATO alliance.
